This piece is a conceptual dinner performance that blends elements of food, fine art, and live performance, aiming to offer audiences a unique and thought-provoking dining experience.
In “Where are we eating from?”, I explore the relationship between processed food and our disconnection from nature, challenging the audience to reconsider the impact of industrial food production on both humans and the environment. The performance critiques humanity’s ignorance toward nature by focusing on processed foods that have become staples in our everyday lives. I wanted to take this experience beyond the intellectual or visual and engage audiences physically by incorporating food in the performance.
The dining experience is designed to reconnect participants with the natural beauty of seasonal plants and the earth’s offerings. As part of the performance, the food is served in edible pottery—bowls and plates made from sourdough—which are not only visually compelling but invite participants to directly engage with the food and material world. At the heart of the experience is the act of “digging” through the edible soil, representing a return to nature. By placing the contents in their mouths, participants are reminded of their intimate connection with the earth, encouraging them to reflect on their own habits and relationships with food.
